On Saturday April 8, the Mexican Consulate established itself in our Community Center to provide numerous services to our Mexican residents in the community. The event was such a success that we are already planning the next date, and other nationalities.
Dont hesitate to contact the Hazleton One Community Center, regarding next visit!
On March 28th Education majors from Penn State University visited the Hazleton One Community Center to work with the After School Scholars in HIP's virtual tutoring program
The Hazleton One Community Center hosted the first Luzerne County Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Youth and Law Enforcement Forum on Tuesday, March 7th. Young adults from a number of area high schools met with law enforcement officers from state, city and school police forces and began the process of opening a dialogue. At the end of the session both groups offered great feedback and spoke about developing a better understanding of the tensions and stresses each group experiences. We are already in the planning stages for additional events that can keep the dialogue going and foster even greater communication and trust between the groups.
The following pictures portray a series of role playing exercises where the young adults are tasked with acting like law enforcement while law enforcement was asked to react like young adults in a variety of scenarios.
