Luzerne County Disproportionate Minority Contact Youth and Law Enforcement Forum

The Hazleton One Community Center hosted the first Luzerne County Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Youth and Law Enforcement Forum on Tuesday, March 7th. Young adults from a number of area high schools met with law enforcement officers from state, city and school police forces and began the process of opening a dialogue. At the end of the session both groups offered great feedback and spoke about developing a better understanding of the tensions and stresses  each group experiences. We are already in the planning stages for additional events that can keep the dialogue going and foster even greater communication and trust between the groups.

The following pictures portray a series of role playing exercises where the young adults are tasked with acting like law enforcement while law enforcement was asked to react like young adults in a variety of scenarios.DMC Collage

HIP's Playground Grand Opening!

On Thursday June 15 the Hazleton One Community Center had its Grand opening for the Playground that will serve as a recreational facility for all the children involved in our center. The playground was donated by Hazleton Creek Properties LLC, who also donated a complete MAC Computer lab to our center. Our very own Joe Maddon and Frank DeAndrea received and inagurated the playground. Thank you, Mr. William Rinaldi for your support to our cause and center!
