Luzerne County Disproportionate Minority Contact Youth and Law Enforcement Forum

The Hazleton One Community Center hosted the first Luzerne County Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Youth and Law Enforcement Forum on Tuesday, March 7th. Young adults from a number of area high schools met with law enforcement officers from state, city and school police forces and began the process of opening a dialogue. At the end of the session both groups offered great feedback and spoke about developing a better understanding of the tensions and stresses  each group experiences. We are already in the planning stages for additional events that can keep the dialogue going and foster even greater communication and trust between the groups.

The following pictures portray a series of role playing exercises where the young adults are tasked with acting like law enforcement while law enforcement was asked to react like young adults in a variety of scenarios.DMC Collage

CTC: Together We Can

Pic Jointer

Our Youth Outreach members: Communities that Care (CTC) created and painted a mural with the guidance of artists Jason Braun. All that were involved worked numerous hours to accomplish this beautiful peace of art, that just by looking at it inspires unity and acceptance. Our HOPE is that from this mural many more can be created around Hazleton, so that everytime "Hazletonians" take a look at one they feel unified and not alone. Thank you CTC members, and Thank you Jason Braun!
